What we
aim to
do here at Paradise Cinema, is bring you reviews and information about
good World Cinema films and Genre films that we think more people
should
see. It is not our aim to bring you tons of reviews or info
about mainstream/Hollywood films, most of which already have too much
info
about them out there. If we find a Hollywood one we particularly
enjoy, or find something worth mentioning in it we will try to bring it
to you. Occasionally we might slam a mainstream film too!
But our
main
aim is to widen the viewers for films that don't quite have as big
a budget
as Hollywood movies. That don't quite get as much press as
Hollywood,
but
which we feel stand out as good World Cinema films, and good Genre
flicks. These genres will include, horror, Hong Kong movies,
Erotic
movies, and
generally just things that are not quite as well known as "Titanic 2".
We hope
that
we point you in the direction of exciting, enthralling,
enchanting,
didactic or just plain wonderful films! Hopefully also
brilliant
films or directors that you (and sometimes even we) may not even have
heard
of, but that may enhance your film viewing in some way. And will,
along the way provide enthralling and exciting entertainment.
Our reviews are also meant to act as a counteraction to reviews of
films that consist of one or two words, "Stupendous"-Outstanding-"Never
seen before" "The best film since..."- If you only watch one film this
year it has to be..." (which also means that the supposed writers of
these reviews are getting paid for using the same old phrases rather
than actually writing anything). We believe that these
reviews are out there as a method of dumbing down. Which is meant
to make people take the word (one word) of these reviewers as gospel
and not to think for themselves about whether a movie/ book/ album or
otherwise is any good or not, but to just take the word of these
reviewers and not delve any further. Which gets us to a state of
them telling us that this film is "Brilliant"-"Great"-"Fantastic" and
then we do not think beyond that, this we believe is deliberately used
as a method to make us watch the same old regurgitated story without
questioning their decisions, instead of thinking for ourselves.
Also
our writers may not always agree on what films they like or don't like,
and where possible we will print both opinions
of this.
